Sad Siren present: I love you will u marry me
This spring, Sheffield-based company Sad Siren Theatre will be working with the citys residents to create I LOVE YOU WILL U MARRY ME, a new piece of theatre about the unseen things we hold dear. In a live and playful exploration of the space between myth and memory, the show paints an alternative portrait of the city of Sheffield through the things that end up in the margins of our lives: things in cupboards, under stairs, pushed to the back of wardrobes. That thing in the biscuit tin under the bed. The objects we dont look at or use, but would never throw away.
Following the success of their previous show The Gods of Pick N Mix in July 2015, Sad Siren will use their unique storytelling voice to invite Sheffield audiences to look, and look again, at the objects gathering dust in all our homes. Interweaving stories collected from the people of Sheffield with Sad Sirens own written and devised material, I LOVE YOU WILL U MARRY ME asks what these objects might mean here, today, now.
To make the show, Sad Siren have been asking dozens of Sheffield residents: What Object in Your Home Has Not Been Used, Looked at or Thought About for a Very Long Time? The company also hand-delivered 200 letters across the citys 15 postcode districts, inviting the recipient to take part.
