Lindsay Lou and the Flatbellys
The Marshall Grange is pleased to present a performance by the one of the hottest new string bands, Lindsay Lou and the Flatbellys, on Friday April 8 beginning at 7:30 pm.
Lindsay Lou & The Flatbellys are a blazing hot Michigan roots string band that is touring in support of a new release, Ionia, named for the bands hometown. Leading the group is Lindsay Lou who has the kind of voice you can get lost in. One part jazz singer, effortlessly transitioning octaves; one part blues shouter, soaring over the band like a clarion call; and one part folk singer, rousing them all together in song. The instruments and the bedrock of the band may come from bluegrass, but the music that Lindsay Lou & The Flatbellys presents can best be described as Americana. This is music that is caught between the pull of the past and the push of the beckoning future, ready to leap forward bursting with new ideas and youthful energy.  In 2015 they were featured in the lineup of prestigious affairs such as The Shetland Island Folk Festival 200 miles north of mainland Scotland, the huge Stagecoach Music Festival in Coachella with 55,000 attendees, The Bluegrass Jamboree all over Germany, and a number of the best acoustic music festivals in the US including Wheatland Music Festival in Michigan, Redwing Roots Festival in Virginia, Pagosa Springs Folk Festival in Colorado, and the Strawberry Music Festival right here in the Sierras.  To round out the year they were named one of NPR Musics 12 best live performance sessions of 2015 by Mountain Stage with Larry Groce, a program which has featured acts like Gillian Welch and David Rawlings, Amos Lee, Joan Baez, Regina Spektor, Norah Jones and PHISH.  After playing the Marshall Grange they will be headed to Merlefest where they have been named one of the Top 10 bands not to be missed.  You can learn more about the band and sample their recordings and videos at www.lindsayloumusic.com.  The Marshall Grange is located at 4940 Marshall Road, in Garden Valley.  Driving directions may be found at www.marshallgrange.org.  For further information call 530-642-8671.
