Arroyo Grande Village Tour -- Jan Scott
Go to jail in Arroyo Grande! The little town of Arroyo Grande is bursting with historical points of interest and stories from the past.
South County Historical Society curator Jan Scott will lead a walking tour of the Arroyo Grande Village for about an hour and a half to visit such locations as the The Hoosegow and the Swinging Bridge. She will also take the walkers to historical buildings managed by the Society.
Jan will regale the walkers with many Arroyo Grande anecdotes, such as the fight between the saloons and the prohibitionists in 1911, which informed the vote for cityhood, and the history of the Odd Fellows and their building.
You will leave the event with an enhanced understanding of Arroyo Grande's history.
Most of the walk is gentle, the road up to the Hoosegow is about 150 yards of more difficult incline.
