Tasting Tuscany
First join Maite Gomez-Rejon at LACMA for an exploration of the culinary history of Italy from ancient Rome though the Renaissance, with a special focus on Tuscany. Then reconvene at Surfas in Culver City where Stefania Barzini of the Folle Casseruola in Rome, Italy will lead the group in the preparation of a modern Tuscan meal complete with a tasting of Casamora Olive Oils and delicious Vin Santo with dessert.

ABOUT MAITE GOMEZ-REJON: Maite has a BFA from the University of Texas at Austin, an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and a Grande Diplome from the French Culinary Institute in New York City. Since 1995 Maite has worked in the education departments of such renowned museums as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Museum of Modern Art and the Getty Villa and has worked as a private chef and caterer. In 2007, Maite founded ArtBites, art and culinary history combined with hands-on cooking instruction, which she teaches at museums across the country. Maite has been a guest on the Today Show, featured in Food & Wine magazine and interviewed on NPR's Splendid Table. Her blog, Cooking Art History, appears in The Huffington Post.
ABOUT STEFANIA BARZINI: Stefania has been involved in the food and wine world for many years. She has lived extensively in the United States where she has held Italian regional cooking courses and organized gastronomic events at the Italian Cultural Institute of Los Angeles. She currently organizes gastronomic events in Italy, most recently SaltExpo, the first international fair on salt. She currently lives in Rome where she owns At School with Folle Casseruola and teaches courses on Italian Regional Cuisine. She also teaches classes on Italian Food at Case del Principe in Sicily, writes for the Rai-Sat Gambero Rosso Channel, and other food magazines. She teaches Food Writing at several Italian universities and has authored seven books including Una Casalinga ad Hollywood (An Italian Housewife in Hollywood), A Tavola con gli Dei: Memorie e Ricette delle Isole Eolie (Dinner with Gods: Memoirs and Recipes from the Aeolian Islands), and Così Mangiavamo: Cinquantanni di Storia Italiana fra Tavola e Costume (The Way We Ate: Fifty Years of Italian History Through Table and Cultural Manners). She has been a juror at the Gourmet Media World Festival in Cannes, France, and at the Slow Food on Film Festival, Bra and Bologna.
