When a young peasant girl is raped on her wedding night by a villainous lord, she turns to the devil in search of respite in exchange for her soul. Her descent into godlessness unfolds as a wildly erotic, hallucinatory epic laced with an unexpectedly subversive account of female strength and the reclamation of power in the face of oppression and subjugation. Director Eiichi Yamamoto infuses dreamlike watercolors with Freudian imagery and a funkadelic score by Masahiko Sato in this singularly psychedelic film, never before released in the U.S.
