Bryan John Appleby + Emma Lee Toyoda
Doors 730 Show 8 All Ages
Bryan John Appleby is a singer/songwriter and composer living in Seattle, WA. After moving to the Pacific Northwest from Central Coast California in 2007 as a drummer in short-lived indie rock outfit, Bryan switched his focus to guitar and spent several seasons penning the songs that comprised his 2009 EP Shoes for Men and Beasts. Bryans early live shows many of which took place at open mic nights, dubbed the batting cages quickly earned him a reputation as a notable lyricist and a compelling solo performer, often surprising crowded bars and basements to a heady, affecting silence with his clear voice and intricately crafted lyrics.
Emma Lee Toyoda. A singer-songwriter? A band? Perhaps both. Regardless of what the name signifies, the music carries images of late summer nights and lost loves. Emmas soothing voice is supported by a band of friends - from Zeke Benders steady brush-beats to Adelyn Westerholms captivating violin countermelodies, Khyre Matthews rootsy bass to Veronica Johansons floating backing vocals, the band portrays happy nostalgia just as effortlessly as somber isolation. But even when its just her voice and her guitar, her personality invites the listener to simply enjoy the moment. No matter the venue, one might feel as if they were in a cabin somewhere nameless, with logs on the fire and friends drinking tea in the other room.
