An Introduction to Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
Participants will be provided an overview of the major concepts of DBT as well as a framework for understanding why and how DBT skills can be used to support work with individuals. Those in attendance will participate in experiential activities as well as observe video and participate in live role-plays to gain familiarity with DBT concepts and skills. This training is ideal for anyone working to provide supportive services to individuals in the community.
Training will include:
-Overview of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) -Understanding of the framework and rationale behind use of DBT skills -Thorough discussion of the four modules of DBT -Real-time practice of DBT techniques -Practical application of DBT techniques for specific populations/settings
ABOUT THE TRAINER
Ann Murphy, LCSW is a mental health provider in the Chapel Hill/Carrboro area with over ten years of experience. She has previously worked in various settings including community mental health, public school, and private practice with groups and individuals. Ann currently works in a program within the public schools to provide Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to high school students, many with mental health and behavioral issues. The purpose of these groups has been to provide the information and skills required for better management of stress, regulation of emotions, and healthier relationships. She also maintains a private practice in Carrboro, NC.
