SOLA: An Evening of Solo Dances
SOLA is an evening of solo dances choreographed for and by women. Curated by University of South Florida assistant professor Andee Scott, the concert showcases the work of female dance artists from around the country, with Elizabeth Weil Bergmann, Amy Chavasse, Tzveta Kassabova, Bliss Kohlmyer, Pamela Pietro, and Andee Scott performing self-choreographed work, and Mary Williford-Shade performing the work of Ursula Payne.
Celebrating the power of women in dance, each of the solo performances is an expression of strength, an eloquent exercise in portraiture, and a continuation of a rich tradition of strong female solo artists following in the footsteps of artists like Isadora Duncan and Loie Fuller.
SOLA is the inaugural performance produced by Dance Linkages, a project Andee Scott created in 2014, whose mission is to build a contemporary network of artists connecting within and across disciplines and geographies to develop, perform, and tour new work.
The performance premiered in Tampa, FL at the University of South Florida and toured to New York, Michigan, Texas, and Vermont throughout 2014-15. Performances in 2016 include the Sarasolo Festival in Sarasota, FL, Out of the Loop Festival in Dallas, TX, and the Dance Complex in Cambridge, MA.
This performance project is an opportunity to bring together high caliber professional artists to not only produce an evening of stunning dance, but also to create a new model for touring dance that creatively responds to current issues of funding scarcity within the arts. Andee Scott
