Jim Snidero Quartet Concert plus afternoon Masterclass
Saxophonist, Jim Snidero performs with his quartet at the Sharp 9 Gallery 7-9pm. He will also run a Masterclass from 4:30-6pm the same day entitled: Learning Jazz Style.
Soulful, swinging and yet utterly modern, New York based alto saxophonist Jim Snidero's music seems to encapsulate what is both unique and compelling about jazz. Called an "alto sax virtuoso" and "master musician" (Downbeat), as well as a "genuinely significant figure in jazz composition" (Penguin Guide to Jazz), Snidero is a veteran recording artist (EMI, Milestone, Savant, etc...) and sideman (Mingus Big Band, Frank Sinatra, Eddie Palmieri, Jack McDuff, etc...) that can truly say "been there, done that".
As a band leader, Snidero has toured for over 25 years, appearing at festivals, concert halls and clubs in the US, Europe, Asia, South America and Australia. The members of his group read like a who's who in jazz, including Brad Mehldau, Tom Harrell, Billy Hart, Peter Washington and Eric Alexander, to name a few. His recordings (19 to date) have consistently received high praise in the press, including "Strings" (Milestone/Fantasy) which was hailed as a "masterpiece" by many international news organizations.
In addition to his performance activities, Snidero is one of the most influential jazz advocates of his generation. His three Jazz Conception book series (Advance Music) have changed the way jazz is taught, used in countless schools through out the world. He is on the adjunct faculty at New School University and was a visiting professor at both Princeton University and Indiana University.
