BLUEBIRD NORTH - Where writers sing and tell
Featuring Helen Austin Bill Henderson Tom Taylor & Shari Ulrich (host)
HELEN AUSTIN: After years of writing songs while making a living as a musical stand-up comedian, Helen Austin's move to Canada in 2002 was the catalyst for her musical career.
Ten years and six albums later, Helen is a prolific songwriter with over 70 TV, movie and ad placements, awards and competition wins under belt including a JUNO, a Canadian Folk Music Award and the top John Lennon Songwriting Contest Prize of Song of the Year. Helen brings her quirky humour to her music, as well as the ability to tug at your heart strings with her more serious songs and her melodies stay in your head long after you have heard them.
Helens focus is now on her band, Big Little Lions, with Paul Otten who produced much of her JUNO winning album. www.helenaustin.com

Bills success as a songwriter began in 1967 with first professionally recorded song, a co-write with his bandmates Looking at Baby which quickly rose to #3 on the Canadian charts. What followed was a string of hits through the Collectors and Chilliwack with his songs still being heard on classic radio to this day. TOM TAYLOR Tom has spent most of his musical career playing in the Vancouver cult band "She Stole My Beer". After two albums and years of touring, the band took a hiatus, prompting Tom to pursue songwriting as a solo artist. His first solo album, "King of July" (2005) was released on Curve Music in Canada, and also found international distribution. In 2008 Tom teamed up again with Juno Award-winning multi-instrumentalist and producer Steve Dawson to record Running Late (Curve Music). 2013 saw the release of Pull Over Here, produced by longtime friend Barney Bentall. More recently, Tom has been playing and recording with BTU, with Barney Bentall and Shari Ulrich. Taylor carries on the classic tradition of the singer/songwriter - a troubadour who can effortlessly draw listeners into his world. www.facebook.com/tomtaylormusic
SHARI ULRICH
Shari grew up in the San Francisco Bay area, and immigrated to Canada in 1972. Shortly after, she discovered music and joined up with Joe Mock & Rick Scott to form the quirky Pied Pumkin. In 1976 she joined Valdy's back-up band, which went on to become the Juno Award-winning Hometown Band. Her subsequent solo career also marked the beginning of her life as a songwriter, winning her another Juno Award in 1981 and a SOCAN award for She Remembers. Over the years Shari has also expanded into television hosting, songwriting education, and composing for film and television. Everywhere I Go, Sharis eighth solo album (and 21st including her work with UHF, BTU and the High Bar Gang), garnered her the 2014 CFMA Songwriter of the Year award.
