This year's Spring meeting is being hosted by the Nansemond Beekeepers Association and will be held at The Smithfield Center in Smithfield, VA.
The following presentations will be offered:
Dr. Lawrence John (Larry) Connor, queen breeder, author and publisher at Wicwas Press will present "The Sustainable Backyard Apiary" and "Club Level Queen Rearing and Drone Production".
Jennifer Berry, research coordinator and lab manager for the UGA honey bee lab, will present "Keeping Bees Alive parts I & II".
Keith Tignor, Virginia's State Apiarist will present "Applying Growing Degree Days to Beekeeping" explaining how to use Growing Degree Days (GDD) to help predict the start of the nectar flow and the onset of swarm season.
Several workshops are planned, including Bait Hives, Top Bar Hives and Preparing Entries for Honey Shows.
Three lunch choices are available for purchase from the host club, The Nansemond Beekeepers Association for $10. If you select a lunch, please make sure to specify what entree and dessert you want in the questions at the end of registration.
Registration through this site is available to current VSBA members and expired/non-members. Payment is by credit card. Prices are the same as for mail-in-registrations, with a discount for current members. Early registration here is until May 20, 2016. Late online registration is May 21 through June 3, 2016.
On Friday, June 17, Walk In Registration (cash or check only) will open at noon with the meeting beginning at 1:00 p.m. Walk In Registration (cash or check only) will re-open on Saturday morning at 8:00 a.m. and the meeting will resume at 8:45 a.m. Presentations and vendors go until 5:00 each day.
