AAU Private Exhibit Viewing : A Fundraiser for the AAU Summer Program
"We Cannot Keep Silent" Private Exhibit Viewing Wednesday, June 27th at 5:30-7:30pm @ the Philadelphia Folklore Project 735 S. 50th Street. Light Refreshments will be served.
In December 2009, dozens of Asian immigrant students boycotted their high school and launched a civil rights campaign around a district's responsibility to provide a safe educational climate. Much has been written and said about this struggle. This exhibit features voices and perspectives from those who were directly involved. Also featuring photos by Harvey Finkle and Kathy Shimizu.
The boycott and struggle around the violence at South Philadelphia High School also magnified the need for raising student leaders and building community capacity to come together and stand up against injustice. Since 1987, the AAU Summer Program has developed youth leadership to address issues in their community and to build a broader force in the Philadelphia area dedicated to social justice. We need community support to continue this essential work.
Please join us we have this special event, featuring a private viewing of the exhibit to AAU folks & supporters of the AAU summer program. Please also stay around for a short Q & A time with some of the student boycotters & advocates at the end of the night. All proceeds will directly go to support the 2012 AAU Summer Program.
