Oyu Oro's Presents: Fragmentos AfroCubanos
OYU ORO presents its spring season performance Framentos AfroCubanos. A sparkling kaleidoscope of the profound traditions and living arts of Afro Cuban folklore, opening with La Moras' new experimental work developed in Santiago de Cuba this winter.
OYU ORO explores the creation of modern Cuba with the infusion of its African, Spanish and Indigenous cultures. La Moras traditional and experimental folkloric choreography illustrates a multitude of cultural expressions formed as a result of colonization, slavery and political sublimation with the artistic assistance of the dance forms that derive from Yoruba, Congo and Dahomeyan cultures of West Africa, as well as Cuban popular dance that features Indigenous (Taino/Arawak) and Spanish influence. This colorful, sensual and energetic medley lives up to the tropical Caribbean experience. Come join the Oyu Oro Afro Cuban Experimental Dance Ensemble and Harlem School of the Arts today!
