BBSU 230: Beer & Food Pairing
With a simple understanding of the ancient interaction between beer and food, the simplest to most extravagant dishes can be transformed into a elegant and sublime gastronomical experience that won't soon be forgotten. The sensory components of beer will be a foundation for leaping into the topics of beer and cheese, complementary and contrasting flavors, and pairing beer with fine cuisine.
Our 200 level advanced courses offer an in-depth look at specific topics for the advanced beer enthusiast, homebrewer, or beer professional. These 90 min courses led by industry experts will be scheduled at various locations and times, and will run for 3 weeks (2 weeks theory, 1 week hands-on). Beer 101 is not a pre-requisite, though it is recommended.
BBSU 230: Beer & Food Pairing will be held on Tuesdays for 3 weeks, beginning May 3rd. During this course you will be given the tools to select the perfect beer when dining out, and identifying the perfect recipe when cooking at home to pair with your favorite beer. Join us for a 3 class course as we build a deep understanding of the art of selecting a beer to pair with a dish, and building a dish around a beer.
Week 1 will cover pairing fundamentals and explore beers best friend..."cheese". Week 2 will explore contrasting elements when pairing and focus on cooking techniques. Week 3 will present students with a uniquely designed 4-course menu allowing students to apply their knowledge and create the perfect pairings.
Students will have an incredible opportunity to learn hands-on from James Beard semi-finalist and winner of the 2016 Cochon prize, Executive Chef Jorge Guzman, as well as Certified Cicerone and BBSU instructor, Shaun Kopp.
