Ellis Paul WoodyFest Songwriting Workshop!
ELLIS PAUL has generously offered to lead a 3-hour songwriting workshop at WoodyFest. Ellis has a long history with the festival and Okemah, having performed at the first festival in 1998 during which he was also made an honorary citizen of Okemah.
Ellis describes the workshop:
"This will be a three hour class on songwriting, editing, and creativity with examples taken from Woody Guthrie's songs as well as others. It means to inform and inspire and enhance your songwriting voice!m
We will deconstruct a few Woody songs as examples and ask the question-- What is it about these songs that makes them so great? Why have they stood the test of time? What lessons from them can I take into my own writing?
We will also discuss the wellspring sources for ideas, song editing, and the importance of sensory imagery."
Ellis Paul has traveled the American folk circuit for twenty five years, stepping on stage at every major festival and venue. He has played the Woody Guthrie Festival for twenty years and serves on the festival's Advisory Board. He also has twenty albums to his credit, had won numerous songwriter awards, has had numerous songs in movies and television, covers by Grammy winners, and has played over 5,000 shows. And he has a Woody Guthrie tattoo. (But don't tell his mother.)
Limited to 100 students. Registration (cash or credit) also available at door. Students need only bring a notebook and pen. It is suggested that students be at least 14 years of age.
