Footloose Presents YES to Everything three weeks of premiere performances by John O'Keefe, David Schein, Robert Ernst, Margery Kreitman, Candace Roberts and Ady Lady. This series is a testament to the Bay Area's scope of talent who write and perform their own dramatic, comedic and musical pieces.
John O'Keefe, internationally acclaimed playwright and director, gets back onstage reading his newest narrative, "The Sequined Lady." O'Keefe, has been on stages around the world and always returns to his Mission district roots. He proclaims this new play, set in San Francisco at the end of the Barbary Coast era, is his "Divine Comedy."
"Kicking Facebook," written and performed by Margery Kreitman and directed by Jayne Wenger is an hilarious, harrowing and very real story of internet dependency. Margery learns to maneuver in the digital world and finds how easy it is to become addicted to electronic life while trying to find love and connection in her search for a match.
"From Piss to Bliss," written and performed by Ady Lady and directed by David Ford is a new solo comedy receiving rave audience reviews. At The Marsh Rising showcase in February 2016, the audience jumped up for a standing ovation. Ady Lady desperately wants to love mankind searches for higher consciousness among the pee smells of life. When Ady says, "Namaste, people," should we believe her? Sharing the bill with Ady Lady is Candace Roberts, singer/songwriter, filmmaker and performance artist whose recent music video "Hello Ed Lee" calling out San Francisco's mayor during the Super Bowl went viral. Her cabaret shows are full of original and cover songs that deliver big on social commentary and confessional story-telling, covering everything from sex, self-worth, consumerism and gentrification, to immigration and racism.
"Schein On: Selected Theater Works 1974-2015," demonstrates the huge range of an artist who always pushes limits. David Schein will present a solo performance of selections from works created over the past 40 years, including monologues dialogue and songs.
Actor/Writers Robert Ernst and David Schein continue their 40-year history of collaboration by performing two pieces back to back. "Duki Be Bob" is the story of two guys becoming artists at a time when their minds, marriages, art and idea of themselves exploded, reformed and expanded. Lathered with pathos and vaudevillian shtick, this show is full with music, physical theater poetic songs, rants and chants. "So Doo Oh Lo" is an eclectic collection where Schein and Ernst use their well-honed physical and vocal tuning in a series of shorts. Each appears in a piece written by the other which they have never before performed as a duet. From the harmonies of Buck Owens to the polyphony of Coltrane; the silliness of the Three Stooges to the stillness of butoh, these two avant weirdos are lifetime brothers.
