The Magic Flute by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
We welcome Jose Alejandro Guzman, the Principal Conductor of Brooklyn's Regina Opera, as our Guest Conductor for this production. Directed by Jennifer E. Learned, the opera will be performed in English, and will have piano and strings accompanying. An opera in two acts, and written in 1791, The Magic Flute is one of Mozart's most celebrated and performed operas.
Abbreviated Synopsis: In a mystical Egyptian setting Prince Tamino is hired by the Queen of the Night to rescue her daughter Pamina from the evil Sarastro. To guide Tamino and Papageno they are given a magic flute and magical silver bells that will help them survive the perilous journey. But Sarastro turns out to be noble and wise and it is the Queen of the night who is evil. Sarastro commands Tamino & Pamina to the Temple of Ordeal where they must prove they are worthy of higher happiness. Tamino wins Pamina's heart, evil is confounded, and the comedic bird-catcher Papageno gets a partner.
