KALW Presents: Kamau Right Now!
Fresh from the launch of his new CNN series United Shades of America and his Showtime stand-up comedy special "Semi-Prominent Negro," W. Kamau Bell is back in the Bay Area and ready for the next episode of his live public radio show Kamau Right Now!
Kamau aims to create a "three ring circus of relevance" as he and his guests and a live audience try to figure out what is going on right now. There will be provocative conversation and awkward talks. There will be respectful debates. There will be much laughter (and probably a few hugs, too). On June 16th at the Starline Social Club, Kamau will be joined by comedian Karinda Dobbins, Black Panther Party leader Ericka Huggins, and 99% Invisible producer Avery Trufelman.
About W. Kamau Bell: The New York Times calls W. Kamau Bell "the most promising new talent in political comedy in many years." Kamau is best known for his critically acclaimed, but criminally short-lived FX comedy series, Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell. He's also proud to be the ACLU's Ambassador of Racial Justice, although he's pretty upset they didn't give him a badge along with the title. Kamau has been a guest on WTF with Marc Maron, The Rachel Maddow Show, Real Time with Bill Maher, The View, and Fresh Air. And you may have heard him on This American Life, telling the story of his experience of racism at the Elmwood Café in his new hometown of Berkeley.
91.7 KALW is San Francisco's original FM station, now celebrating 75 years on the air. It's a proud NPR affiliate and incubator for innovative programming including the award-winning local newsmagazine Crosscurrents, the design podcast 99% Invisible, the San Quentin Prison Report, Philosophy Talk, and the Spanish-language narrative journalism program Radio Ambulante.
