An evening with Keith Greeninger and David Jacob Strain at the Kuumbwa in Santa Cruz April 29th
Award winning singer songwriter Keith Greeninger performs at the legendary Kuumbwa with his good friend and amazing slide guitarist David Jacob Strain on Friday April 29th at 8:00 PM. This performance is part of a West Coast tour the two are sharing throughout Oregon and Northern California. They will perform both separately and together through out the evening and will be joined by an array of talented musicians including Drummer and percussionist Jim Norris, Philly Harmonica legend Bob Beach as well as other special guest during the course of the performance.
Greeninger is a long time treasure of the West Coast music scene, he is an award-winning singer-songwriter whose keen insights, compassionate worldview, and lyrical perspective are matched by a natural musicianship that combines deep groove laced guitar playing, and soulful heart wrenching vocals. His most recent CD Soul Connection has received strong airplay on Americana stations nationally and features members of Little Feat and The Bonnie Rait Band.
David Jacobs-Strain is a fierce slide guitar player, and a song poet from Oregon. Hes known for both his virtuosity and spirit of emotional abandon; his live show moves from humorous, subversive blues, to delicate balladry, and then swings back to swampy rock and roll. Its a range that ties Jacobs-Strain to his own generation and to guitar-slinger troubadours like Robert Johnson and Jackson Browne. I try to make art that you can dance to, but I love that darker place, where in my mind, Skip James, Nick Drake, and maybe Elliot Smith blur together. His new album, Geneseo, speaks of open roads, longing hearts and flashbacks of Oregon a record of emotions big and small, and lyrics that turn quickly from literal to figurative. Im fascinated by the way that rural blues inscribes movement and transience. The music that frees a singer keeps them on the run; theres a crossroads where a thing can be enchanting but dangerous; damaging but beautiful.
