Heart of Carolina Jazz Orchestra w/ Dr. Gregg Gelb
The Heart of Carolina Jazz Orchestra is now in its 25th year of presenting jazz concerts in the central part
of NC. For its April 9th concert, Big Band Jazz Composers of North Carolina, a wide variety of musical
compositions will be performed; from swing to modern. Many of the featured big band arrangements
are by North Carolina jazz composers are Steven Andersons Rhyth Migot and Waiting, Gary
Brunottes Autumnal Air and Sincerely Yours, and Gregg Gelbs original compositions, I Cared for
You and What Lies Ahead. Paul Kelly, from Sanford, NC has contributed his arrangements of Speak
Low and King Porter Stomp which were written for the US Airmen of Note when he was their staff
arranger.
The Heart of Carolina Jazz Orchestra is directed by Gregg Gelb. Gelb began the Orchestra in 1991 when
he was Visiting Artist at Central Carolina Community College. Over its many years the organization has
presented many of the finest artists in the world of jazz such as: Cecile McLorin Salvant, Bud Shank, Dave
Valentin, Houston Person, Rene Marie, Stanley Jordan and Sonny Fortune. On Oct. 1, 2016 HOCJOs
guest artist is jazz guitar legend, Larry Coryell, whose show will be at the Lee County Arts and
Community Center. The Heart of Carolina Jazz Orchestra is a non-profit 501 C3 organization. For more
