INCLUDES NEWEST LITERARY EDITION OF SWAN: A POETICAL INQUIRY IN DANCE, TEXT & MEMOIR

RENO, NV.  April 1 - 3, 2016. Brüka Theatre presents The Swan Lectures as part of our Artist In The House Series 2016.  L. Martina Young will work and present to the community her original and investigative work:  SWAN.  There are two components to this residency. The lab is the first component:  April 1  3, 2016 up to 20 participants will generate work within the workshop that will be performed by Young during a Sunday performance.

Participants are invited from the community at a $25 fee that includes the newest literary edition of SWAN:  A Poetic Inquiry in Dance, Text and Memoir, and participation in the workshop and presentation that includes the discipline of presence of mind and physical action, perceiving the mythic and the poetic in the literal, in the body, and in the text, interfacing cognitive processes with intuitive and imaginative processes, identifying "what is,"--a transparent and honest relationship to developing relationship to one's aesthetic material,--text, body, voice, gesture, language, sound; a discerning perception of subjective and intersubjective, and the relationship to self and world and recognizing the function of "possibility" between them.

The second component is a Public Presentation on Sunday, April 2, 2016 at 2 PM.  The 75-minute conversation with YOU will speak to the history and future of The Swan Project and interface the artist and public on aesthetic perception, making art in todays world, the relationship to our times and a lab work demonstration.  The fee for the public presentation is $24, which includes a Swan literary edition.

This is an incredible opportunity to work with artist L. Martina Young.  Young is an exceptional and unique master movement/literary/dance artist.  The work that she does is exemplary and cutting edge, and immerses artists as participants and audiences into the heart of movement and original and written text.  Martina brings with her decades of experience and an eye and technique for bringing students to a higher level of work and execution.   This workshop and presentation are funded by a generous grant from the Nevada Arts Council.

Reservations are available through our box office at (775) 323-3221. Individual tickets are $24 for the Sunday Presentation and $25 for the Lab workshop that also includes the Sunday Presentation.  Both include a copy of the SWAN Lectures. Bruka validates convenient parking at the Parking Gallery on First and Sierra Streets. Tickets available online at: http://www.brownpapertickets.com.   We recommend advance reservations.
