Island of Black and White Spring Fling
Springs around the corner and its time to clear out the winter blahs with a Spring Fling. You can do that by dancing your socks off at a KFOK party with the Island of Black and White Saturday March 19 at the I.O.O.F. Hall in Georgetown beginning at 7:30 pm. Tickets are only $10 in advance.
The Island of Black and White has become one of the areas favorite party bands, with their high energy and long list of genres that include reggae, classic rock, folk, funk, blues, country and just about anything else they feel like playing. How many times have you seen somebody playing the guitar and keyboard at the same time while using a talk box with an accordion, playing a Marshall Tucker Band song? Or, how about a lead singer wandering through the audience playing a song on an accordion riding a unicycle? This is pure uncut fun entertainment.
This is not a band that plans out every move and note they make. They like to improvise and play in the moment, syncing with the crowd so that each song is unique no matter how many times youve heard them play it before. Sections get shortened, switched around and solos extended or turned into an unplanned breakdown. You never know where their music will go except that it will take you on a fun ride dancing away the winter blahs. Its clear the bands number one goal is having fun - for themselves and those listening. You can sample their tunes and videos at www.islandofblackandwhite.com.
This party is open to all ages. There will be an assortment of beverages and snacks available for a small price. And it is a GDRD community partner event, and a benefit for the operational costs of keeping community radio on the air. For more information you can call Buzz at 530-334-3758. The I.O.O.F Hall is located at 6249 Main Street in Georgetown.
