THE FAMILY TOWNSHIP - the great rock band from Boston, takes up residence at The Lizard Lounge for the month of March introducing a ton of new material along the way. Each week will also feature the great Andrea Gillis fronting the band to sing classic Township covers. You won't want to miss this rock'n'roll mix of cosmos and sweat! And tonight featuring Christian McNeill as a special guest!
THE FAMILY TOWNSHIP
The life of a rock band is measured in dog years. Maybe thats a good metaphor with all the primal urges that govern its actions. Township celebrated their 9th year on the planet in 2015 and the last couple have marked some beautiful progressions the addition of fifth member James Rohr on keys and the welcoming of their 5th full length album, Light Years. Chipping away for the better part of 3 years, the album brings forth a bigger, more focused Township than ever before. Township finally grew up, for lack of a better term, or at least got a handle on those urges and focused them to a much more creative and fulfilling result. The rock remains in spades How could it not?! But the sounds are more expansive and the shows a mix of cosmos and sweat. A different band, maybe. A better band, definitely. Township took a big step forward into the beyond the strangely familiar and the familiarly strange.
ANDREA GILLIS
Hailing from South Boston, Andrea Gillis is the real deal - a Northeast legend of rock, soul, jazz and blues. "She has been blessed with the pipes of Etta James and with the boozy swagger of Jim Morrison." - The Boston Globe
CHRISTIAN MCNEILL
A native of Derry City, Ireland, Christian McNeill is a force of alternative rock and soul, renowned for gritty and passionate live shows and songs with memorable lyrics anchored in infectious melodies. If you trace his career arc back to his early days with post-punk band, Schtum, to his most recent project, Sea Monsters, you will hear a style of singing and songwriting that is ever-evolving and always engaging. The uncompromising honesty of the song "Zero" caught the ear of Steven Van Zandt, who in turn placed two songs from the 2013 album "Everything's Up For Grabs," in heavy rotation on his globally broadcast, Underground Garage.
