Inherit the Wind
Widely hailed as one of the most outstanding dramas of the 20th Century, Inherit the Wind is as relevant today as it was in 1955. Set in the 1920s, schoolteacher Bert Cates is put on trial for violating the Butler Act by teaching evolution instead of creationism. Cates' girlfriend, Rachel Brown, is torn between the opposing beliefs held by Cates and her father, the Reverand Brown.
Inherit the Wind was written by Jerome Lawrence and Robert Edwin Lee. The story fictionalized the 1925 Scopes "Monkey" Trial as a way to challenge the then-contemporary McCarthy hearings. Debates over the separation of church and state and science versus religious beliefs still exist today. This production is sure to spark discussion of these important issues.
John Contini, Susie Wall, and Alan Knoll star in this final production of Insight Theatre Company's 9th season.
