Cooking for Compassion and Health - Making Your Own Seitan or Wheat "Meat"
The hands-on class will expand your repertoire and is for anyone curious about plant-based cooking. Attendees will learn how to make their own seitan, a high-protein plant-based mock meat that replicates the taste and texture of steak, chicken, and other animal products, but without the cruelty or danger of microbial contamination. Seitan is made from wheat protein, or gluten, and can be used in a number of ways.
Class enrollment is limited to 12 people.
Class will be held from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm in Chico in a spacious home kitchen in a beautiful and peaceful environment. Food will be served during the event, and no one will go away hungry. The class fee covers the cost of the foods prepared that day and all handouts.
The class is offered through Dharma Voices for Animals and Sky Creek Dharma Center and part of the monthly Cooking for Compassion and Health series. The next class will be on May 21, 2016 on how to make your own homemade vegan cheeses.
