AZTLAN Dance Company's - AZTLAN: On the Rocks
The Aztlan Dance Company presents AZTLAN: On the Rocks, April 7-10th at Austin's Santa Cruz Theater, 1805 East Seventh Street. Thursday through Saturday performances are at 8pm, followed by a Sunday matinee at 2pm. On the Rocks is a full evening-length performance of AZTLAN's signature innovative dance that blends and fuses tradition and modernity into evocative stories that narrate Austin's diverse cultures, histories, and experiences. The On the Rocks performance serves up delightful dance recipes that range from the whimsically delightful tunes of yesteryear to the deliberately strong interpretations of contemporary Eastside barrio culture.
Capturing the spirit of Austin's diverse Latino/Xicano culture, the performance reflects moving stories that narrate life in the ever-changing borderlands. As in all of AZTLANs repertorio, On the Rocks is both about remembering and re-imagining - locating dance, culture, and community within shared lived experiences, and thus providing fluid ways of making stories relevant and resonant for today's audiences.
About AZTLAN Dance Company The AZTLAN Dance Company was founded in 1974 to create a stable and conducive environment for the creation, preservation, and performance of Xicano/Latino dance in Austin, Texas.
