Battlefield Band at the me and thee
On Friday, October 26, the Battlefield Band will make their me and thee debut. Inspired by their rich heritage of Celtic music and fired by the strength of today's Scottish cultural scene (which they themselves have done much to create and fuel), the Battlefield Band mix the old songs with new self-penned material, and perform them on a unique fusion of ancient and modem instruments--bagpipe, fiddle, synthesizer, guitar, cittern, flute, bodhran and accordion. This is the gold standard, the band against which all others are measured. After forty years, they still lead the way for Scottish music, as they travel the world. As one recent reviewer from the Edinburgh Evening News said: 'The Battlefield Band is turning into a national treasure, and exemplifies the ongoing nature of Scottish musical tradition. Not seen them yet? Shame on you." Doors open at 7:30 PM for this 8:00 PM show at the me&thee coffeehouse which is located at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Marblehead at 28 Mugford Street.
Under their banner 'Forward with Scotland's Past,' the Battlefield Band have been a bedrock of talent for over four decades, and continue to lead the way for Scotland with their inspired fusion of ancient and modern traditional music and song. Scotland's great flagship band are the musicians that others measure themselves against, and their new album Line-up finds them fresh and invigorated, illustrating once again that they are among the most relevant contemporary composers and interpreters of Celtic music today. Founded by a group of friends in 1969 and named after the 'Battlefield' area of Glasgow, the band have now been touring & performing throughout the world, playing to audiences in Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Asia, the Middle East and Canada, as well as more than 60 cities annually in the United States. Ever evolving; over the years new members have brought with them new ideas, music, instruments, attitudes and influences, leading to continued creativity, freshness and enthusiasm. The new line-up includes young multi-instrumentalist (fiddle, Highland bagpipes, small pips, vocals, and piano) Ewen Henderson, and has been received with great acclaim on their US, Canadian and UK tours, as the group move on to a new, exciting period in their musical development. The band also includes: Mike Katz on Highland bagpipes, small pipes, whistles, Bouzouki, Guitar, and bass; Alasdair White on fiddle, whistle, bouzouki, Highland and small pipes; and Sean O'Donnell on vocals and guitar.
