WORKSHOP: Catch Me a Catch - A Renaissance Musical Tour with Derek Tam, San Francisco Renaissance Voices Education Director
Secular music took on new importance in the Renaissance, as the advent of printing allowed for the mass circulation of songs in the vernacular. Composers explored the bawdy and the sublime in their own languages, writing everything from simple, melodic catches to complex polyphonic madrigals. This workshop explores characteristic songs of the Renaissance from various countries. Singers of all skill levels are welcomed to participate in this fun "hands-on" workshop, as well as instrumentalists (who will double the vocal lines). We will explore how the text informs musical expression, both vocally and instrumentally. Should you require a music stand, please bring your own.
