Composer, guitarist and singer Yousif Yaseen presents: Visions
As the rocking underbelly of the ship rhythmically heaves its majesty, scattering pearls and time, Maymoona is frequented by visions in the darkness of the ocean's endless night, leaving her with the one moment, where all is, where all has been and ever will be. Here in this suchness, stories of Ethiopian elephant armies collide with the song of an Iraqi Mars colonist and the travels of a troubled bird philosopher; all part of a world that must keep on spinning.
Visions is Yousif Yaseen's debut album and will be released in April 2016.
Visions is a collaborative project/universe created by a group of musicians, featuring:
Yousif Yaseen is a young guitarist and singer who writes colorful music inspired by contemporary multiculturalism. His songs and compositions are a collage of musical sources, with a particular emphasis on bringing out unique eastern modalities in a contemporary harmonic musical framework. Yousif's approach to the guitar is unique in that he often exploits its possibilities as a percussion instrument as well as a modified maqam instrument, by tuning it to microtonal tunings appropriate to Arabic music. A powerful solo performer and dedicated bandleader, Yousif's music attempts to conjure complex emotions influenced by his impressions of a globalized world. He sings in both English and Arabic. Yousif graduated from Berklee College of Music where he was mentored by Simon Shaheen and Jeannie Gagne. He currently lives in New York City and is preparing his first solo album,Visions.
