Piano Prodigies Jerry & Jimmy Chen
Would you like to hear Gershwins Rhapsody in Blue by the well known international piano prodigy Jerry Chen, or Concertino on Two Russian Themes with his brother Jimmy Chen? You are in for an extraordinary afternoon and will be amazed by the program of the Chen Brothers concert. Jerry and Jimmie have received multiple awards both in the United States as well as in Italy, Brazil, Russia, Mongolia, China and Argentina. The Music Festival is once again honored to have Jerry and his brother Jimmie perform for our audience.
Recently, Jerry was awarded the title of First Place International Winner in the Valdisotto International Piano Competition in Italy. Judged by a panel of 9 adjudicators from Brazil, Italy, Russia and the United States, Jerry won First Place not only in the High School/Collegiate solo division but also in the High School/Collegiate Duet division (with his partner, his brother Jimmy Chen). Students who competed in this competition were from Russia, China, Italy and the United States.
Jerry received a personal invitation, in 2014, to perform a solo concert in Caldarola, Italy. For artists of his caliber this is one of the most sought-after venues in Europe, where the BBC does their tapings! Having been the First Place Winner in the Valdisotto International Piano Competition in 2014, Jerry was asked to join the 2015 panel of 9 international judges to adjudicate the 2015 international competition in Italy.
Jerry has studied with Julia Amada Kruger for the past 7 years and has successfully competed in numerous state, national and international competitions; winning first and second place awards in all competitions. He performed throughout Italy, receiving the title of Distinguished Musician and Young Talent in Sicily (IBLA International Competition). This year in national competition, Jerry was chosen as the most outstanding pianist for grades 11-12 in the district of Texas.
15-year old pianist, Jimmy Chen, has been a student of Julia Amada Kruger for the past 6 years. During this time, Jimmy competed successfully in national competitions, winning multiple First Place and Second Place awards in solo and duet divisions. As a grade school student, Jimmy competed in an international California competition (USOMC) won First Place for Brahms, and Fourth Places for Advanced Bach and Advanced Prokofiev. At the same time, he was named Most Outstanding Student for grades 7-8 in the Texas district.
Internationally, Jimmy (then a middle school student) competed in the Carnegie Hall Competition (NYC) and was awarded Second Place. In the Valdisotto International Piano Competition (Italy), the younger Chen competed against students from the US, China, and Italy was awarded First Place International Winner for solo grades 1-8 as well as First Place International Winner for the High School/Collegiate levels for duets. As a result, he performed on the international Young Talent Concert in 2015 (Italy). In the summer of 2015 at the same competition, Jimmy was then awarded Second Place International Winner for the High School/Collegiate solo levels and will return in 2016 to perform a solo concert in northern Italy. Jimmy has also been the guest artist on Italian prodigy concerts with his brother, Jerry Chen
Jimmy , now a sophomore in high school, was just named a winner in the Austin Music Youth Ambassador Program for 2015-2016 and will perform many community concerts to raise the level of awareness of classical music.
Please join us as we welcome The Chen Brothers Prodigy Concert.
