Bill Anschell Trio

The Bill Anschell Trio returns to the Thumb for a great night of award-winning jazz! Anschell will be joined by bassist Chris Symer and drummer DVonne Lewis. This is the second Thumbnail Theater performance by Anschell's trio, which was enthusiastically received in its first appearance last year.

Anschell, a veteran pianist and composer, has led his band in seven South American tours. His three CDs as a leader have charted nationally for radio airplay and received widespread critical acclaim. In 2005 he won a Golden Ear Award as Northwest Jazz Instrumentalist of the Year, a feat he repeated in 2010 and 2011. In 2006 his trio was named Northwest Acoustic Jazz Ensemble of the Year.

Chris Symer moved to Seattle in 2002 from Los Angeles, where he was an in-demand player for live gigs and studio work. He has appeared as a sideman with Bennie Maupin, Charlie Byrd, Tierney Sutton, and Roger Kellaway, and has performed in orchestral settings for film scores.

DVonne Lewis, still in his twenties, has already made a huge splash in the Seattle jazz scene. He is in heavy demand, both within and beyond the jazz world, for his hard-swinging style and creative approach to the drumset. He also leads the band Industrial Revelation, which has received numerous awards including a Genius Grant from The Stranger.

The trio will put its unique stamp on well-known jazz standards, as well as performing several of Anschell's original compositions.
