Tyke Elephant Outlaw (2015, USA, 78 min.) In 1994, a circus elephant named Tyke killed her trainer in front of thousands of spectators and ran through the streets of Honolulu, before dying in a hail of gunfire. Her break for freedom filmed from start to tragic end traumatized a city and triggered a global wave of animal rights activism. The testaments of her former trainers and handlers, circus industry insiders, and witnesses to her rampage make clear that this was not a freak accident, but the logical result of the normalized abuse that performing elephants endure in the name of entertainment. Directed and produced by Stefan Moore and Susan Lambert.
