Three fantastic acts that approach roots music from their own unique perspective. The quiet gentle country soul of Bob Bradshaw. The British overtones heard in the bucolic Americana of Sand Machine. The righteous rock and hellbent showmanship of The Ressurectionists. It all adds up to one helluva great night at The Lizard Lounge!
RESURRECTIONISTS Founded in 2006, The Resurrectionists celebrate the dark depths of American roots music with a feel-good, righteous rock fervor. Refined over the course of countless gigs in and around Boston, the 4-piece bands performances combine driving rhythms and hellbent showmanship with a twilit vocal tour of family and faith, booze and the blues.
SAND MACHINE Some people dubbed a radio they had been bringing to the beach for many years "Sand Machine" because it was filled with sand, yet it still worked. Inspired by its persistence and dedication to music, they named their band after it. That is the creation myth of Sand Machine. Since then the band has busied itself with creating infective melody lines and harmony arrangements reminiscent of the British invasion overlaying bucolic American roots rock. Encompassing social commentary, story-telling, emotional revelation, and a touch of wry, Sand Machine purports to be both the forest and the trees.
BOB BRADSHAW He is not going to hit you over the head. Aided ably by session guitar ace Duke Levine (Peter Wolf band, J. Geils Band, Aimee Mann, Giant Kings), among others, Bradshaw is operating in the gentler, probing realm of country-soul or roots-rock, Americana, whatever term you fancy. A quiet storm. He grew up loving Van Morrison (one of his first concert experiences) but as a songwriter, he likes to go to the kind of places some of his favorites Guy Clark, Townes Van Zandt, John Hiatt, Steve Earle, John Prine - have gone. He likes to observe, tell tales.
