LOS KUNG FU MONKEYS, OCEANSIDE SOUNDSYSTEM & LOOSE NUTTS @ the SHAKEDOWN!
LOS KUNG FU MONKEYS OCEANSIDE SOUND SYSTEM LOOSE NUTTS $6 IN ADVANCE / $8 DAY OF SHOW DOORS: 9 PM / SHOW: 10 PM
LOS KUNG-FU MONKEYS are a six-piece Punk & Ska Band out of Tijuana. Yes Tijuana! that infamous border town known for it's zebra-like spray painted donkeys, velvet paintings and a revolution. No not the street filled with clubs for tourist and hookers but the musical and art revolutionary movement now taking place in Tijuana. A movement that was spearheaded by the world reknown and now defunct Tijuana No! which is now lead by the techno-banda DJ's the Nortec Collective, the eclectic Julietta Venegas and Los Kung-Fu Monkeys.
The OCEANSIDE SOUND SYSTEM is bringing Southern California its first real taste of high-octane, tattooed rock/ska. The new sound is a far cry from the generic "safe reggae" style of ska-rock you can hear anywhere up and down the coast. This sound is generated from an all-star line up of local favorites, easily setting Sound System apart from everyone else in the scene. Skillet, the lead singer and front man of San Diego's punk rock menace to society, Wanted Dead, delivers his unique vocal stylings. Irieside's, Ben Blessing, brings a rock steady vibe to the lead guitar, while Garrett Grabowski of Stone Senses anchors in the sound with plush rhythm guitar. Aaron Peterson of Stone Senses drops down the funky bass lines. Beating on the drums, you will find Sid Syrup. Local scene veteran Kendall Rogers, of The Hillstreet Stranglers, punctuates the tunes with a classic variety of percussion instruments and backing vocals. Of course, no rock/ska band can do without Kelly "The Don" Dunn tickling the ivories, and Joshua Donahue, pulls it all together with smooth lines of saxophone pillow talk. Oceanside Sound System's music explodes with the melodic aggression that you'll feel and love (and hate!) Join the San Diego Rock/Ska movement!
LOOSE NUTTS: Complete with goofy, hyper-active shit talking and songs about drinking beer, smoking weed and skateboarding, The Loose Nutts capture and epitomize the spirit of being young punk rockers in a Southern California beach community. Hailing from Oceanside, a breeding ground for great punk rock, ska and reggae, The Loose Nutts are in the perfect position to effectively blend the genres together. The Loose Nutts, comprised of former members of The Teenage Corpses, Horror Cats, The Kannon Boys, and Keg Without A Tap started in 2008 and have been through more lead guitar players than Spinal Tap has drummers. As they exist today, The Loose Nutts are Dario "Pork chops" Pinoargote (Bass & Vocals), Sam "Sap" Sapienza (Guitar & Vocals), Ricky Havoc (Drums), Salo Pinoargote (Sax) and finally a lead guitarist that isn't a total square - Chris Avina on guitar. Reminiscent of the Expendables, Sublime and vintage Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Loose Nutts deliver tunes ranging from mosh pit hyper to pillow talk mellow. A typical Loose Nutts shows is usually an intoxicated blend of head nodding, cracking up and rocking out. The first time I saw them live I felt like someone found all the class clowns from my old high school, taught them to play intstruments and turned them loose on an unsuspecting public, to revel in the attention they so desperately craved and so richly deserved back in the class room. If I were to attempt to convey what a Loose Nutts show was like in one sentence, I would have to go up to the wall in the bathroom of my favorite bar and sharpie, in the most childish hand writing, "For a good time, call The Loose Nutts!" -Adam Crawley, The Reader
