JAMES MONTGOMERY BAND
The James Montgomery Band returns to The Courthouse Center for the Arts at 3481 Kingstown Road, West Kingston RI on Saturday, April 23rd with a new show celebrating the music of the late Paul Butterfield who was recently inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Montgomery, an avid fan of Butterfield since the late 60s, has just completed a CD, honoring the influential musician, that is slated for release in the early summer. Paul was one of the most important figures in American music and was able to take urban blues in its earliest form and transform it into what has become the legacy of the blues: the basis of Rock & Roll, Jazz, Funk, Fusion, and to some extent Rap and all Pop Music. He was likely the first musician to explore Blues with such an expanded horizon. We were thrilled when he was inducted into the Hall of Fame by Peter Wolf but we wanted to do something for Paul musically to show how versatile he was. The Montgomery band will also feature their well-known favorites from over the years as well as some new songs one of which was co-written by the band and Grace Kelly the hottest new saxophonist on the scene who has headlined Newport and occupies a regular slot on the Steven Colbert show as a member of Jon Batiste and Stay Human. This show will be hot!! The Montgomery band loves the Courthouse and thinks of it as one of the best places in Rhode Island that is dedicated to showcasing and developing the Arts. It is an intimate room that had featured some of the best and well known National Acts that tour the country. As with any non-profit it relies on the support of the community so the band is hoping for a big turnout for this must see show.
