PINE TRAVELERS: Pine Travelers create original music that combines the gritty Americana of outlaw country, folk, and bluegrass with old school funk rave-ups and roots rock & roll.
Based in Madison, WI, Pine Travelers have played close to 300 shows in 6 states since their inception in 2013, including Wisconsin, Illinois, Colorado, Texas, Minnesota, and Iowa. In addition to playing notable Madison venues like High Noon Saloon and The Crystal Corner, the band has also held a monthly residency at Alchemy, a favorite venue on Madison's east side, for a year.
The group's songs allow for a dance-able, energetic live show paired with honest, meaningful lyrics reflecting their northern midwest roots. Pine Travelers hope their music reflects their modest, hard-working values: rural values meshed with urban sensibility; engaging sets ranging from rustic roots music to funk grooves with a modern twist.
They've also performed fresh and exciting sets at quality festivals including: Midwest Music Festival (MN), People Fest, Steel Bridge Songfest, Moondance Bluegrass Fest, Ifdakamp Festival, and Toodeloo Shakedown Fest, sharing the stage with acts like Particle, Horseshoes & Hand Grenades, Pert Near Sandstone, The Mustache, and many more. The group is currently recording a new album, to be released in Spring 2016. Audio, tour dates, video, and more can be found at the links above!
STARGOYLE: Formed in the Summer of 2015, when long starving guitarist, song-writer and singer, William Baxter, finally met a bass player suitable, and dedicated, in Adam Z. Anderson. Although the two hit it off musically, the full sound was not rendered untilkeyboardist, Rick DeDecker was coaxed out of retirement. A dedicated drummer was the final piece needed and was found in Matt Vande Vyver.
This unlikely combination has led them on a whirlwind journey from moment one. Not many bands have their first show at a festival, but then again not many bands carry the swagger and mysteriousness of Stargoyle. In their case, this is exactly what happened, as they had their debut performance with a day set at the now-defunct Ifdakamp festival, no doubt a gig earned when Rick pulled a couple strings.
Although the band has been around only for a moment in an ocean of experienced and seasoned acts, they are not new to the musical world. In fact, Will and Matt used to gig togther in different bands as early as 2002, being members of Photontox and Tetra respectively. Rick as well was instrumental in the formation of one of Wisconsins most popular acts, Ifdakar, being a founding member, and writer of many classic tunes, such as Larry the Emu and Kool-aid Man as well as popular solo songs such as the Vampire Song. Not to be outdone, Adam Z Anderson has been a long-time player, and enjoys snapping photos for Madison House, when he is not playing with the rest of the guys.
Even stranger, is the mystery surrounding the bands music, the hidden meanings behind the songs, beneath the virtuosic chops of Baxters guitar, and the thick synth lines of Rick Ds keyboards, lies a hidden world. One of Robots, Emus, and a mysterious benefactor named the Chinaman, what is Stargoyle? Only those who have seen them truly know.
