GREY MATTER
The absolute best alt-comedians in the bay are ready to christen the new "King Room" at the Starline Social Club in Oakland! Come to the Starline Social Club for crafty cocktails and tasty bites, then find your way in back to the 'secret' King Room. This is how Saturday night is supposed to go down.
Our sophomore show features the absolute comedians in the bay :Irene Tu, Natasha Muse, Kaseem Bentley, and Bucky Sinister. Emcee: Phil Surkis
Irene Tu is a stand-up comic, writer, and performer, newly transplanted to the bay from Chicago. She has been in SF Sketchfest, Limestone Comedy Festival, Cape Fear Comedy Festival, She-Devil Comedy Festival, Chicago Womens Funny Festival, and she co-produces Laugh Function every Saturday 8:30pm at Pappys in Berkeley. http://irenetu.com
Natasha Muse is like the C3P0 of San Francisco comedy: a bunch of small bears once mistook her for a golden god but in reality shes a bumbling robot (as well as a mom, a transsexual, and a firm agnostic). The SF Weekly once declared her a Comedian to Watch in 2014, and in 2016 they upgraded her to an Artist to Watch. Natasha features at the SF Punchline and Cobbs Comedy Club, and has worked with such comedy luminaries as Maria Bamford, Roseanne Barr, Janeane Garofalo, Wyatt Cenac, and God. Natashas comedy is so good, its not even funny. http://natashamuse.com
Kaseem Bentley was named SF Weekly Best of Award Winner for "Racial Humor You Don't Feel Guilty Laughing At" and one of the Bay Area's Top 5 Comedians to Watch by the San Jose Mercury News and Kaseem Bentley is an African American insult comic from San Francisco. Growing up with his 'hardcore class clown' father and mom that was like a tough Claire Huxtable Kaseem developed his no-holds-barred comedic style that made friends and co-workers always laugh. After years of procrastinating he finally tried stand up in 2006 and has been steadily making a name for himself in the Bay Area. Known as the "The funniest comic at the worst show" he works at works at the SF Punchline, Cobb's, and all around the bay.
Bucky Sinister is a poet, author, and comedian. His latest novel, Black Hole: A Novel, was just published to rave reviews. His journalism, film reviews, and short stories have appeared on The Rumpus, The Bold Italic, and a number of other online and print publications. He appears regularly as part of The Business comedy collective, and recently launched his own series, Hard Lessons, at the Rite Spot in San Francisco. http://www.buckysinister.com/
Phil Surkis is a comedic storyteller, and has made many friends since producing shows at his brief, but memorable Oakland venue, The Barn. In 2015, Surkis produced a variety show called What Ever Werx at Stage Werx, where he is also a regularly featured performer in the Solo Sundays series. He produced W. Kamau Bell's sold out residency at The Marsh. He is currently a producer for Kamau Right Now! on KALW. Surkis has produced shows featuring Echo Brown, Julia Jackson, Bruce Pachtman, Nato Green, Kaseem Bentley, Karinda Dobbins, Paco Romain, Bucky Sinister, Zach Sherwin, Lydia Popovich, Matt Lieb, and many, many more. http://phil.surkis.com/
