ART AND SOUL
Join Poetic Justice Project for its Art and Soul fundraising dinner at 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 24 at the Cornerstone Community Room in Santa Maria. Local singer Amaris Taylor will entertain, with soul food catered by Papa Jays Southern Quezine of Guadalupe.
Amaris Taylor is a 2011 graduate of the Pacific Conservatory for Performing Arts (PCPA). She appeared as a singing warden in Poetic Justice Projects 2014 production of In The Kitchen With A Knife. She currently sings with the San Luis Obispo band Zen Mountain Poets, and with a touring Roy Orbison tribute show.
Poetic Justice Project, a program of the William James Association, began in January 2009 in Santa Maria, with the mission of advancing social justice by engaging formerly incarcerated youth and adults in original theatre that examines crime, punishment and redemption.
The $40 dinner ticket includes Papa Jays entrees of tri-tip, ribs and chicken, along with sides of potato salad, mac and cheese and red beans. Dessert includes sweet potato pie, peach cobbler, brownies and bread pudding.
The Cornerstone Community Room is located at 705 S. McClelland Street, next to the Discovery Museum in Santa Maria. The event includes art items for raffle and sale.
