The origins of this group of individuals is an eclectic one to, to say the least. Led by bandleader, bassist/guitarist, Gabriel "Gabe" Durand, born in Paris, France, founded the band during his time at the lustrous Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. Coming from a rich musical background, extensive side work and a family of musicians (whom includes jazz vocalist Dee Dee Bridgewater), Gabe was privileged to play alongside respected individuals in the music community. From jamming with The Roots, Dee Dee Bridgewater, the rising trumpeter Theo Croker, bassist Hadrien Feraud, Bassekou Kouyate, Finley Quay and many others, Gabe had precise idea of how he wanted to execute his music. He sought musicians but more over people with whom their was a profound chemistry. With time, the band amassed a large surplus of players similar to that of Snarky Puppy's extended family. On stage there can be anywhere from seven to thirteen people at a time, each intertwining to paint their own imagery of music. The current core members consist of Domenic Volpe Davis on bass, Ayinde Webb on drums, Donnie Hogue on drums, Odaine Williams on keyboards/synthesizers, Aleif Hamdan on guitar and Gabe Durand on bass/guitar/vocals. The music itself is reminiscent of the weeping guitars of Hendrix, to the rich warm analog of George Duke to Glasper's heavily hip hop influenced jazz approach and a distinct attention to the groove.
