Band in Seattle live television taping with Maszer and The Spider Ferns
What's more Seattle than supporting your local businesses? Supporting your local musicians, that's what. So be a responsible Northwestern-er and get yourself down to Victory Studios for the taping of our next episode of Band in Seattle with artists Maszer and The Spider Ferns on March 11th, 2016. Each band will perform a 45-minute concert, followed by a filmed interview and music trivia webisode, sponsored in part by American Music. Front doors open at 6PM at Victory Studios, 2247 15th Avenue West (near the Interbay Golf Center) and the concert ends approximately at 10PM.
Maszer:
After touring the world with Reignwolf, opening for The Pixies and Black Sabbath, musicians David T. Rapaport and Joseph Braley teamed up with Seattle-based singer Katie Blackstock, whose haunting vocals round out the dynamic new sound of MASZER. Combining classic psychedelic rock with distinct Middle Eastern grooves, the self-proclaimed cross-genre band serves up psychedelic hot sludge sundaes at a kosher pizza party in the desert. In the groups latest single, Fata Mirage, the newly-formed trio brings elements of 90s nostalgia and danceable melodies to center stage to create an upbeat and fresh track.
The Spider Ferns:
'The Spider Ferns are a duo that aim to hypnotize. Made up largely of just electric guitar and bass, with no drums, there is very little to prevent you from getting lulled into their bubbling tones. Without percussion, the sounds tend to just wash over you, lively though they may sometimes get. Kelly and Alton Fleek (bass and guitar, respectively) both take time on the microphone, but Kelly's lead vocal is always present. Enveloped in echo, Kelly's voice takes the listener on quasi-psychedelic excursions that sound less influenced by LSD than by downers. It's easy to imagine lighting a cigarette, turning on the Spider Ferns and melting into a comfy chair for long periods of time. Still, a sense of unease permeates the Spider Ferns, even amidst the narcotic ambiance. -Adam Mckinney The Tacoma Volcano
