Great American Think-Off
The 24th annual Great American Think-Off will be held on Saturday, June 11, 2016 in New York Mills, MN. This year's topic is "Income Inequality Threatens Democracy."
The Think-Off is an exhibition of civil disagreement between powerful ideas that connect to your life at the gut level. The Cultural Center, located in the rural farm and manufacturing town of New York Mills, sponsors this annual philosophy contest.
People of all ages are encouraged to submit an essay of no more than 750 words for a chance to win one of four $500 cash prizes and participate in the live debate to ultimately answer the question, determined by audience vote.
The deadline to submit essays is April 1, 2016. The four finalists (two on each side) will be chosen by May 1, and will travel to New York Mills, MN to debate the topic before a live audience on June 11 at 7:00 p.m. at the James W. Mann Center For Performing Arts in the New York Mills School.
Immediately following the debate, all are invited to a reception at the Cultural Center for a chance to connect with the finalists and other attendees, and continue the discussion while enjoying food, drink and general merriment.
