Friction Quartet
San Francisco-based Friction Quartet, whose performances have been called terribly beautiful (San Francisco Classical Voice), stunningly passionate (Calgary Herald) and chillingly effective (San Francisco Examiner), exists to expand the string quartet repertoire and audience for adventurous contemporary music. Joshua Kosman (San Francisco Chronicle) declared that Friction Quartet is an artist who should be discovered and described their performance as high-octane music makinga fine blend of rhythmic ferocity and tonal flair. Since forming in 2011, Friction has given 63 world premiere performances and commissioned 30 works for string quartet.
Friction Quartet's program will feature works by John Adams, Adam Cuthbert, Ian Dicke, Missy Mazzoli, a world premiere by Isaac Schankler, and arrangements of Skrillex and Diplo by Friction Quartet member Doug Machiz.
Program:
Ian Dicke - Unmanned for quartet and live electronics
Isaac Schankler - Hagiography for quartet and live electronics
Adam Cuthbert - Universe Explosion for prerecorded quartet, octave dropped cello and quartet
Missy Mazzoli - Harp and Altar for quartet and electronics
Skrillex (arr. Machiz) - Scary Monsters
