Project1VOICE: 1VOICE! 1PLAY! 1DAY!
Seattle, WA Brownbox Theatre in association with Liberation United Church of Christ is proud to announce its participation in Project1VOICE - www.project1voice.org, joining 25 theatre companies across the country in nationally staged readings of The Amen Corner by James Baldwin. The Seattle reading of Project1VOICE will be held on Monday, June 18th at Epiphany Parish at 1805 38th Avenue.
The Project1VOICE goal is to facilitate a national conversation about the challenges facing Black theaters with a focus of identifying "next steps" toward solutions, compelling ideas and innovative approaches to audience development, community outreach, and fundraising are needed for sustainability.
This year James Baldwin's three-act play The Amen Corner was selected as the nationally staged reading. In selecting this piece Project1VOICE honors a prolific novelist, essayist, playwright, poet, and social critic on the 25th year anniversary of his passing. The Seattle reading of The Amen Corner is directed by Tyrone Brown and features the talents of local 12 Seattle actors. The stagemanager is Mandy Bower.
Brownbox Theatre is a Seattle-based theatre company recently re-founded by theatre director and producer Tyrone Brown. The company's mission is the creation, development, and production of re-imagined Black theatre. Stay tuned for future announcement of the company's 2012-2013 season.
