The countdown to the Summit begins - see you on May 19th, 2016!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We would like to invite you to join us and other neighbourhood house staff, community food leaders, activists, thought leaders, funders and policy folks for the 1st Annual Vancouver Food Summit on May 19th, 2016 at Gordon Neighbourhood House (Breakfast, Lunch and Snacks Included).
The Vancouver Food Summit is an opportunity for community food practitioners and stakeholders to spend a day sharing experience and expertise, challenging assumptions, having difficult conversations and exploring how to deepen our collective impact. As we gather to do this work we acknowledge that we are on the unceded, occupied, ancestral and traditional lands of the Musqueam, Skxwú7mesh, and Tsleil-Waututh nations. We also remember the historical and ongoing colonial genocide against Indigenous peoples that make it possible for us to be here as settlers.
The sessions to choose are still being confirmed, but they are likely to explore topics ranging from:
- Is Local Food Inherently More Just? - Food Waste: an Opportunity or Albatross? - How do we ensure that community food programs are accessible to people with disabilities? - Indigenous Food Sovereignty - Are rights based arguments (Food, Housing etc..) effective? - Hunger: Is Food Policy a solution? - Do Food Banks stay the same, evolve or do we aim to close them?
Keynote by: Diana Bronson (Food Secure Canada, Executive Director) http://foodsecurecanada.org/
Attendees can stay for Happy Hour after the Summit from 4:00PM to 6:00PM. Snacks, Craft Beer ($5) and delicious snacks will available. GNH's resident DJ (DJ Teyshan) will be on hand to make Happy Hour that much more fun. See you there!
Tickets to the Vancouver Food Summit can be purchased for $60 at: http://vancouverfoodsummit.bpt.me
We hope that you can join us, please do get your ticket before they are sold out (we have a limited capacity). Feel free to invite others in your network or that you think might be interested.
