"A Nation Once Again" - the Irish Uprising of 1916 in Song and Story
On Saturday, March 12, 2016 at 7:30 p.m. the hills of Putnam Valley will ring with the songs and stories of the Irish. In "A Nation Once Again," some of the best Hudson Valley actors and musicians will gather at the historic Tompkins Corners Cultural Center in a unique St. Patricks Day event. The evening will honor the centennial of the 1916 Easter Uprising--the fateful week that sparked the Irish War of Independence. Unique to the 700-year struggle for Irish freedom is the tradition of keeping the fight alive from generation to generation through music and poetry. Among the singers, actors and musicians who will tell this story on March 12 will be Susie Deane, Bill Molloy, Tim Pitt, Pat Cummings, Janice Hardgrove, Alice Backer, Jan Hoekstra, Frank Fasano, Caitlin O'Heaney, and Paul Savior. And because no Irish evening is complete without one, a "seisiún" will follow the performance. And yes, there will be soda bread! All Irish need apply! So, If you are Irish, or Irish in your soul, or if you like their music, you'll love their story!
