Falls of Rauros, Krigsgrav, Giant of the Mountain, and Butcher Boy
Maine's own guiding lights of folk-laden black metal Falls of Rauros top of a bill of heavy-music purveyors, raw experimentalists, and sonic-adventurers. Krigsgrav is the decade-long project of Fort Worth multi-instrumentalist David Sikora devoted to exploring raw and uncompromising sounds with resplendent melodicism, spanning black metal, shoe-gaze, post-rock, and folk. They've recently signed to Bindrune Recordings (becoming labelmates of Falls of Rauros), and will release their new album, Waves of Degradation this spring. Dallas' Giant of the Mountain deliver a crushing amalgam of blackened progressive death metal entirely of their own creation. Their eclectic influences shine through shredding solos, heavy low-end, technical complexity, and atmospheric waves of doom and death. Portland purveyors of all-things-avant, Butcher Boy are one of the northeast's most ineffable and alluring bands with a sound that takes cues from gothic Americana, doom, free jazz, and post-rock, along with a sonic trademark and lyricism that is uniquely their own. Their highly anticipated follow-up to 2014's Rhubarb was recorded in Montreal with Efrim Menuck of Godspeed You Black Emperor and Silver Mt. Zion, and is due out this year.
