PSYCHO!
Our final MARCH MADNESS film is Alfred Hitchcock's technical tour de force, PSYCHO. Financed personally by Hitchcock (who prided himself on his economical approach to filmmaking) in exchange for 60% of the proceeds, it's a classic horror film, groundbreaking and horrifying at its time of release.
SPOILER ALERT: A certain someone does not make it to the end of the film. Her shower scene, shot from 77 angles with 50 edits, was originally meant to be shown with no score. Hitchcock's great collaborator, Bernard Herrmann, insisted Hitchcock try it with the music he'd written for it. The result made movie history and Hitch remarked later that "33 percent of the effect of PSYCHO was due to the music."
