AJF2016: Steve Coleman and Five Elements
To me, Steve is as important as [John] Coltrane. He has contributed an equal amount to the history of the music. He deserves to be placed in the pantheon of pioneering artists. Vijay Iyer
Steve Coleman is a critically acclaimed international performer and one of Americas greatest ambassadors for jazz worldwide. Steve has performed with Michael Brecker, Jack DeJohnette, Branford Marsalis, Dizzy Gillespie, Wynton Marsalis, Sting, Bobby McFerrin and Sarah Vaughn, to name a few. Steve travels and performs around the world, and his non-profit organization, M-Base Concepts, provides educational outreach to young people. In 2014 Steve was named a MacArthur Fellow, which has enabled him to carry on his mission.
As Steve is a world renowned composer and performer, we are thrilled that he will appear at AJF2016.
