SongSpace at First Unitarian Presents The Sea The Sea with Special Guests The Young Novelists
The Sea The Sea have appeared twice on Mountain Stage and have been featured in NPRs Heavy Rotation songs that NPR cant stop listening to. The Huffington Post calls them two of the loveliest male-female voices you might hear this or any other year.
Five years after they first met at a songwriting contest, Chuck e. Costa and Mira Stanley reconnected, after major life upheavals, to form The Sea The Sea. They borrowed their name from Xenophon's Anabasis, the ancient tale of Greek soldiers returning to their coastal home after a long arduous battle inland. "The Sea! The Sea!" is a cry of joy. Once they began writing and singing together, it didnt take long for Chuck and Mira to weave their many voices into one.
After their successful debut CD Love We Are We Love, they come to SongSpace on the eve of the release of their new EP, In The Altogether. They accompany each other with electric/acoustic guitars, the occasional banjo, piano, and percussion, but it is Chuck and Miras rich harmonies that provide the depth to their songwriting. Their perfectly matched voices sometimes share the back-and-forth conversations of the songs characters and other times are the exchanges of one mind, weighing a decision, analyzing the moment, and trying to find the answers.
Opening for The Sea The Sea is Toronto duo Graydon James and Laura Spink, The Young Novelists. With one EP and three CDs under their belts most recently 2015s award-wining made us strangers the Young Novelists are going places. From major festivals like Mariposa and CMW to iconic theatres like the Neptune in Halifax to trendsetting hotbeds like Torontos Horseshoe Tavern, The Young Novelists show is as engaging as it is endearing and has earned them slots alongside the likes of Cuff the Duke and The Strumbellas.
Two amazing bands. One amazing show. Hope to see you there, for another great SongSpace listening experience!
Online sales end 12 hours before the show. Additional tickets available at the door.
