Born and raised in St Louis, Steve has lived here his whole life. Before you ask -- he graduated from McCluer High School in 1968 in a class of 1,100; they marched in eight abreast down the center aisle of Kiel Auditorium at graduation. Steve and his brother Mark, five years his junior, enjoyed a mostly idyllic childhood growing up in the 50s and 60s in Ferguson, Missouri. Art, Shirley, Steve and Mark all sang in the church choir. Steve continued his interest in singing all through his school years -- singing in choirs and madrigals.
After becoming a father to Ben in 1976 and Joe in 1980, plus starting his own veterinary practice at Kingsbury Animal Hospital in 1978, there was not much time for singing with a group; Steve did most of his singing to his sons. In 1991 he joined the Gateway Mens Chorus (GMC) which marked his return to singing and his coming out publicly as a gay man. He also met and fell in love with Hugh, his life partner, in New Orleans in September of 1991.
Steve sold Kingsbury Animal Hospital in 2014 and retired from veterinary practice in September 2015. Knowing his cabaret friends experiences of creating their own shows and enjoying being in the audience for their performances, he decided it was time for him to take the plunge. Singing from the heart meant singing about the things that matter, so he decided to make his first and hopefully not his last cabaret performance auto-biographical. He appreciates the generosity and talents of Lina Koutrakos, Rick Jensen, Katie McGrath, Robert Breig and Dionna Raedeke -- gifted folks indeed -- who have helped him create his first solo cabaret show.

Rick Jensen is certainly no stranger to the St. Louis cabaret scene. The multi-talented singer, songwriter, director, and producer served as music director for many local cabaret performers and has starred in several sold-out solo performances in town. Rick's compositions have become standards on the New York City Club circuit, garnering him critical praise and earning him six Manhattan Association of Cabaret and Clubs MAC Awards including "Tonight, New York City: The Rick Jensen Songbook," written, musical directed, and hosted by Rick Jensen, directed by Lina Koutrakos at the Metropolitan Room in New York (2012).
